Our Mission

Chemical City Paper is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization covering local government, education, business and the arts in Midland, Mich.

OUR MISSION is to increase civic engagement and promote a robust discourse on public policy issues by providing in-depth, comprehensive news coverage of local government, education, business, and the arts in Midland, Mich.

We also publish commentary from people with special expertise and perspectives that deserve to be part of the civic conversation.

As a nonprofit, we are obligated to pursue a mission, not deliver returns to investors, who might earn more if reporters and editors chased clicks or controversies. Our mission helps to keep our focus on the issues and challenges that will define our community. When the community comes together to support our journalism, we’re able to craft a news report that benefits our readers rather than one that benefits us. We believe that public-service journalism is a public good and deserves to be delivered free of financial conflicts.

Mission Over Profits.

As a nonprofit, we have an obligation to pursue a mission, not deliver returns to investors.

Substance Over Clicks.

Our mission compels us to focus on news that benefits the community, not on what sells.

Local Control. Always.

At the highest level, we will always be controlled by members of the local community.

Clarity Over Secrecy.

We believe you deserve to know who gives us money. We disclose all of our donors and sponsors.
